Mentees and Mentors Sought for a Unique Online Mentoring Program in STEMM

Global Talent Mentoring is an online mentoring program fostering excellence in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the medical sciences (STEMM) for talented youths worldwide. Distinctive in its evidence-based and long-term approach, Global Talent Mentoring aims to bridge geographic and cultural distance to connect the brightest young minds with distinguished researchers, academics, and professionals in what will become a global pool of talent development. The mentees are outstanding, hardworking young talents (about age 16) from around the world – and exceptionally motivated to pursue excellence in a STEMM domain. The mentors are accomplished scientists and other practicing STEMM experts (PhD or equivalent R&D experience) working in the private and public sectors.
Why Global Talent Mentoring?
Join an inspiring and intellectually stimulating global network of recognized STEMM experts and highly motivated, extraordinarily talented students. By volunteering, mentors make the valuable contribution of facilitating equal access to knowledge. Excellent students in STEMM will thus gain access to the support they need to develop their talents. Mentees selected for participation become part of a global community of STEMM talent development. They remain program participants for the long term during their transformation from promising highschool-age talents to accomplished early-career experts - completely free of charge.
How do I get involved?
Scientists, mathematicians, engineers, IT experts, and other practicing specialists working in STEMM and interested in making a difference in the life of a highly talented, motivated, young person can sign up today at Global Talent Mentoring. Global Talent Mentoring is currently expanding its international network of mentee-nominating partner institutions. If your institution is a leader in catering to the needs of talented youths in your country and keen to learn more about nominating mentees, please contact Global Talent Mentoring COO, Dr. Daniel Patrick Balestrini.
Background and Future
Global Talent Mentoring is a flagship offering of the World Giftedness Center, a virtual center for evidence-based gifted education and talent development of the UNESCO-affiliated Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation. Between 2018 and 2020, Prof. Dr. Heidrun Stoeger and her research team at the University of Regensburg (Germany) forged a network of more than 40 partner institutions from five continents representing universities, talent development centers, government ministries, trade groups, businesses, and public–private partnerships. In 2020, more than 500 outstanding students from 27 countries were nominated as mentees, and more than 250 experts in STEMM have registered to become mentors. In March 2021, a pilot round with ca. 100 mentees and 100 mentors will start mentoring activities. Additional cohorts of mentees and mentors will be added to the program over time. More information about Global Talent Mentoring’s background, objectives, and operations is availableon its website and via its newsletter.
